Criteria for Selecting Board Members

The Global Alliance for Artificial Intelligence (GAFAI) is committed to the highest standards of governance and leadership. Based on our belief in learning from best practices, we have developed the following standards for selecting board members:

Passion for the Mission
Candidates must demonstrate a genuine commitment to GAFAI’s mission and values, ensuring alignment with our strategic objectives and organizational culture.

Relevant Expertise and Skills
We seek individuals with proven expertise in artificial intelligence, governance, strategy, finance, or other fields critical to our goals. For AI-focused boards, candidates should possess at least foundational knowledge of AI concepts and their implications for business and society.

Ethical Reputation and Integrity
Board members must uphold the highest standards of ethics and integrity, maintaining a positive reputation within their professional and community circles.

Diversity
GAFAI values diversity in all its forms—including gender, age, background, geography, and technical or non-technical perspectives—to foster broad representation and enhance decision-making.

Willingness to Advocate
Selected members should be ready to actively promote and represent GAFAI externally, serving as ambassadors for our mission and values.

Leadership and Teamwork
We look for strong leaders who are also effective collaborators—individuals who listen, communicate well, and work constructively within a team environment.

Connection to Resources
Candidates with established networks in government, industry, academia, or funding circles can help advance GAFAI’s reach and impact.

Time Commitment
Prospective board members must understand and be able to meet the time and engagement expectations required for effective board service.

Continuous Learning
Given the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence, board members should be committed to ongoing education and staying current with technological and ethical developments in the field.

We regularly assess the collective skills and experience of our board, identifying and addressing any gaps to support GAFAI’s evolving strategy and oversight needs.

These criteria reflect our dedication to responsible governance, diversity, and the pursuit of excellence as we advance the responsible development and deployment of artificial intelligence worldwide.
